Hiya

Do you have any of these newts left? I just bought a new tank from ebay and was thinking of getting some newts to put in it.

Its only a 57 x 30 x 30cm tank which apparently is 51 litres/ 13 gallons. How many would I be able to keep in this? The caresheets seem to vary quite a bit on housing requirements.

Hi Kirsty,

I have 3 adults in a 3' tank - but they have far more space than they need.

I have read varying info on this too. One site says 15 gallons is fine for 4 adults. I would think 3 might be fine for your tank.

I still have plenty left as I've not really been plugging this sale and probably wont really advertise properly until the spring as I've managed to get a bigger tank to house them till I find good homes for them - in the meantime though anyone interested is more than welcome to some.

Just make sure your tank is escape proof. They are currently in water about 18 to 19 degrees C a couple of inches deep (without a strong current) with land area and are eating live bloodworms from a dish in the tank at the moment (keeps the rest of the water cleaner) - though you could change this.

Let me know if you fancy some and we can arrange it,

Best wishes,

Alex

Glad to hear you have some left!

Well the seller hasn't got back to me yet about picking up the tank, so once ive got it home, given it a good clean and set it up ill definitely let you know about getting 2-3 of the little guys from you.

Im only down the road from you anyway (Barrhead) so it wouldnt be far for them to travel in a faunarium.

Kirsty

not sure if you'd be interested however i have some Himalayan crocodile (Tylototriton verrucosus) morphs if you would like to exchange. Currently only being fed on bloodworms.

They are still very young (3-1/2 months) and only 50% have morphed, however by the end of the month i'm expecting that to be up to 80% ( i have 2-3 larvae which i really never expected to live, however they started gulping down the bloodworms like they were the last ones on earth lol)

I'd let you choose whether or not you wanted morphed of course, it has been great watching the transformation over the past months.

Hi there,

I have about 20ish left so if you'd like some that would be great. I dont really have space though to take on another species - shame really cos the Himalayan Crocodile Newts look fabulous - well done on breeding them - its great fun isnt it

They are currently being fed live bloodworms from a dish in the tank - they are all good eaters but with so many of them I have not had the time to hand feed them all.

Sorry I didnt notice your post earlier ....

Best wishes,

Alex
