well i hope they are not in your local shops!
there are many reasons why it does not work from size difference, feeding patterns, different husbandary and mainly because frogs can be harmfully to members of different species. a bacteria/parasite/toxin that lives on or within 1 species with no problems may be fatal to the other. better to not mix frogs with anything other than there own species, and even then some frogs will not live together. pic your fav frog and keep that, if you want another type best to set up a seperate viv.

I'm not an outright opponent of mixed community vivs but there are several stringent guidelines even if you do mix, eg make sure the inmates are the same size, no species known to be particularly aggressive (or cannibalistic! - should always be kept singly!), if possible from the same area, if possible checked out by a vet for parasites and other nasties. I think one has to be very careful with amphibs because the moisture they so need can also unfortunately be an easy transmission path for unpleasant things such as pathogens.
But yes, if it's a small species and not known to be cannibalistic or aggressive, get him a couple of female cagemates of his own kind! Quite a few anuran species live in reasonable proximity to one another as individuals of the same species, after all. |
