Default Question on newts?

Can they be albino??

because i went to a party last night and my moms friend was telling me about a newt they had in the garden and they originally thought it was sick because of how white it was, but then they thought maybe it was albino so i offered to see if i could find something about about them.

It isnt a pet by the way, they just found it in their pond, which the man's girlfriend actually wants filled in, so i was just wondering if it is possible to get an albino newt, and i guess what they should do with it, before her minds made up on filling in the pond.

Someone else told them that an albino newt would be an endangered species??? me being a lizardy person i have no idea if this is true and whatnot...

Any information would be helpful thanks

Hi guys, we had a similar query re the albino frog earlier. I put some pics up here: Untitled Document (pics were sent to me by someone else, incidentally).

I had not heard of albinism in native newts, but it would not surprise me as it is a recorded phenomenon in other members of the Family Salamandridae.
