Default Found a newt in the garden

I have found a baby newt in the back garden. Could it be kept as a pet? Or would it be better off being released?? If it could be kept, what sort of set up would I need, and how do I go about keeping it??? Any replies appreciated.

No please dont keep it in captivity. Observe it and enjoy the fact that you have newts living wild in your garden

Nice one guys.

Photos would be interesting if you could get any, though. Also consider contacting Froglife UK as they are trying to keep a census of what species are living where in the UK.

I haven't heard anything bad about Froglife UK, incidentally, but if anyone knows why we shouldn't work with them, perhaps they would like to let us know?

there's some that are endangered, so put it back in case! we found one when we were digging up our garden last summer- we fed it some bloodworm while we finished digging and then let him go by next door's pond- apparently they get loads in there! so if you wana see more- maybe get a pond lol!
