Default Salamander feeding tips?

hey, i have 2 tiger salamanders and they never come out for food, they burrow all the time and a lot of the time i will have to dig at least one of them up for dinner, i usually feed them every 3rd day, but i havent fed them now for 4 days because i want to see if they will get hungry and come out. is there anything u can do to condition them to come out for food, such as a sound everytime u feed them, similar to what a dog would respond to? or if anyone has any other tips on what i can do to get them to come out for food that would be great. its not that they arent hungry, once i get them out, they eat and eat and eat, so i just cant figure them out.

Tigers like to dig themselves in in the wild in the warmer days and stay aestivating, so they tend to be pretty inactive. On the other hand I find if you keep them on spagnum (with or without any water level) they may be more active. I find mine is often quite mobile and usually snaps toward my fingers in the hope of getting food.

well i dont keep them on spagnum because the salamander forum i go on, every single person tells u not too as its acidic and can be harmfull to their skin, they are on organic soil. my big one snaps at my hands to get food lol, the little one i dig her up and she will eat worms out my hand etc, so they are both friendly and ok with me, just like to dig down, i just think she should at least some out every few days for food, maybe shes just so used to me diggin her up, she knows she will get her dinner whether she comes out or not

Hi Laura, which forum is that? I would be interested to hear their advice.

I have not had any problems with mine, but I will check up on that.

i want mine to do that, but they just dont, well one does but the other wont. i wonder if its just their porsonalities, or if i can do something to help. Sean, what sort of care do you give yours, just briefly, just to see if theres something im missing, or something i can change.

Default salamnders

it is probably just there porsonalities, but i have 2 tigers in a 3 foot glass tank an eco earth substrate lots of different logs arranged a large water bowl but no higher than the sals head i dust there food with calcium once or twice a week it is mainly there porsonalities but min are just crasy when it comes to feeding, sometimes if i do not feed them in around 4 days they just eat anything which moves. also i spray them with water once a day but they do not like it very humide.
