Default Sexing salamanders

How do you sex salamanders?

I got a very very tiny baby one of Jake last year from the Donny show, and its grown loads and I have just moved it to a bigger viv. But was thinking I might like to get him/her a friend...but I have no idea what sex the one I have is. I know its a Fire Salamander...can you keep more than one together?

Thanks

I would agree. However don't overcrowd them.

Re sexing, I believe that a swollen cloaca in breeding season is the main sign of the male sex in most salamanders. Also if one Fire Salamander appears to be carrying another one around on its back, then the one doing the carrying is the male - this is part of their courtship.
