Yeah, frogs generaly arnt meant to be handled, generaly because the salts on our hands can be harmfull to them, they are also very suseptable to stress and dont really like being moved around.
You also have to bare in mind that the larger frogs have a habbit of biting. On the other side, these large frogs tend to be a little easier to care for as they're a little more robust. Robert |

good hardy frog is a african bullfrog, as someone already said no frog is particularly for handling but they get a nice size and are funny as hell, they eat anything and everything!

african bullfrogs all the way! I wanted one since i was 11, and when i saw one 2 years ago(12 years later) i snatched him up. Hes brilliant! He eats anything, and when especially hungry, hell try and jump out of the tank after my hand. I think theyre the best frog ever, easy to keep and feed, really hardy and a lot less prone to stress than most frogs. mine had a tumor on his toe which needed amputating, less than an hour after the surgery he was stuffing his face! avoid handling though, as was said already, avoid being bitten(large males can inflict injuries which in the worst cases can require stitches) and dont feed too many mice as they are fatty, and when over used, can cause cornea problems. do loads of research(as always) and good luck, imo you couldnt get a better frog!

Because african bullfrogs are so fat and lazy, they dont require a very big tank for their size, an adult male(which gets twice the size of a female) should be more than happy in a 2x2' tank, mines currently in a 3x1 and hardly uses any of the space . They like to burrow, so a nice deep substrate of ecoearth and sphagnum moss will be appreciated(careful none is ingested though) and a nice big water bowl, they are surprisingly good swimmers for their build. Also, keep a high humidity as they dont need much persuasion to go into estivation(sort of dry hibernation) though this is natural and healthy for them, and when they wake up from this, youd better have a big breakfast for them! 'The Horned frog family and African Bullfrogs' by R.D Bartlett is a fairly good book on them, though sways a lot more to horned frogs(boring!)
