Default whites and wood

it seems to me that everyone uses glass for whites and frogs in general

is there a reason for this?

and can i use melamine same as in most other vivariums as i have just found a few shelves from ikea that make a spot on size for a whites

Its because of the high humidty. Generally whites prefer good ventilation but even with a little bit of humidty melamine can bubble and warp.
If its any consolation i use wood for my whites and always have.

that's good enough for me i'll just make a good third of the top mesh or something and possibly use a pc fan as an extractor as soon as i figure out how to make one run off mains voltage.

1/3 sounds a little excessive. I use a long strip of mesh at the top of the viv the ceramic heater is situated below it facing down.

in your opinion what's the best to use for heat?

i'm not sure whether a heat mat or ceramic or night glo bulb would be best.

how much water do you provide also?

1: I am not a fan of heat mats so i prefer either bulbs or ceramics. This is a personal preference, i find them easier to maintain the heat that i need and it looks better in a viv than a heat mat.

2:Whites frogs cannot swim but they enjoy submerging their entire bodies in water at night so a bowl or tub that allowed for that would be good this is what i use - but mine has jagged edges and is slightly deeper as my whites is an adult and can reach the bottom. However along side the pot they will need misting twice daily.
