Default Live planted viv

Right with me recently acquired frogs i was planning to set up a live planted viv for them. I had it all planned out but it all happened rather quickly so i havnt really finished it, so where there should be plants are plastic ones for the time being. HOwever, to the point, i brought aplant called mother in Laws tongue, it has think waxy leaves, that are long and go to a point. I was told it should be safe to use, so want to check that out. However, i also found small white balls in its soil and im not sure if these are going to be plant food or pesticeds or anything. As such i havnt used it.

Does anyone here know anything about plants enougth to give me some advice??

Jay

The plant's also called "Snake Plant" or Sansevieria trifasciata, and is on the safe list for reps; not sure on amphibians but, thought I'd give you the other names to help you find out more about it.

yep! they need dryer conditions on the roots. well drained soil. the nodules are for fixing nitrogen. they like poor, sandy soil.

Any plants brought from a garden centre should have the soil washed from their roots AND a damn good rinsing of all the foliage before you use them in an amphibian viv.

Alternatively, place an order with a company who specialise in viv plants such as these guys E.N.T. Terrarientechnik

yer it will be throughly washed, the soil was removed, then its going to be replanted in a new pot and the pot burried in the viv so i can controll how much it grows etc.

However i was just curious about the white bits in the soil and wondered if these would in any way leve a residue on the plant that would be transfered to the anphibians

The white bits tend to be polystyrene balls to help with soil drainage
