Default My Newts..I can show you at last!!

This is my newts home hope you like it, you might not be able to see them as they spend the daytime hiding behind their rocks or in their castle!

Sorry the pictures aren't great, they don't stay still very long!

This is Peewee, his simply tiny and has grown alot since day one, mind you he eats like a horse He was the first rescue to come in and was so thin he could barely move
His brother died

This is Chunk, called chunk because ever since I've had her she's been on the larger side for weight. I did think she was suffering inpaction but apparently not, then maybe eggs but apparently not LOL She's not so big today so maybe things are looking up, normally she is more swollen. she was the second rescue

This is Nipper, his number 3 rescue. His still thin but is eating well. His underside is a mess and came to me all cut up but i'm hoping that as his gained his appitite, he may pull through. His very active now when food comes

I have two others but they are sleeping LOL

Thank you guys!!

When it's feeding time later I'm going to get one of the 5 of them swimming around

I was told they were fire belly newts and by the stomach would suggest so but not the head shape apparently, they have the shape of a paddle tail apparently. These are my first newts so if anyone has a clearer idea please let me know

Would you need clearer photos to tell?

Cute! what species are they? i thought most newt species needed a small land area though? and i would personally get rid of that fine sand, its got impaction written all over it. amphibians are such clumsy eaters!

Fire belly newts
They do have a land area, if you look closely they have a large turtle dock which is smooth and will rise and fall with the water. They also have climber plants to hide in and hang on too when taking in oxygen, hopefully this is enough but i've only ever seen the tiny ones use land.

The sand is new as they did live on gravel but I couldn't risk it will the big ones tummy, plus the gravel was small enough to be eaten and the medium sized too rough. They then had pebbles but the food kept falling through so they couldn't reach it and polluting the water.
Then they had a bare floor which they couldn't grip and stopped moving around or chasing food. After much talking and thinking I got in touch with some people to enquire and they suggested sand....
Which led me to riverbed sand, i'm very frightened they will eat it but apprently as it's river bed, it tightly packs together to form a smooth surface and any tiny bits can be easily passed..lets just hope they right! because like you said mine are very clumsy eaters.

I feed mine alot of live food now so they shouldn't need to eat off the river bed.
