Default Fbt

Hi,
I'm new to all of this & have just got a couple of oriental fire bellied toads.
I have them in approx 40% land made of gravel with live moss & 60% chlorine free water graded from 0" - 3" deep.
I also have a large piece of hollow bog wood extending from water onto land (hollow side on land).
A few plastic plants on land and water.
The water has a small submersible pump which draws the water to an external filter (black box in picture) that then rains back to the water side of the tank by re-directed the flow.
Will try and post photo of my set up shortly.

(Picture to demonstrate tank only & not my setup)

The question I have is both FBT feed well, but only one venture's into the water.
The other seems to spend most of it's time either on land or hiding in the hollow of the log.
Is this normal or should I be worried?
Could the constant water flow / rain be a problem?

Also neither of my FBT are very green on top, one is brown'ish and the other is very dark green, both have lovely coloured bellies though.
Is it because they are still young or will they always remain this colour?
I don't mind either way but a brighter green might be nice / easier to see.....
Cheers in advance for your advice!!!

I have a group of 4 - some prefer the water more than others. I just make sure their tank remains humid so the landlovers don't dry out!
As for their green colour that is likely to develop as they age - you will see patches of green appear as they get older.

Cheers berksmike,
That has made me feel happier.
With the rain effect and the fact that gravel is just ramped (no water dam) - even the highest point gravel is constantly moist either from capillary effect or the odd splash...
Will try and take a photo of my set-up.....

I'm glad you like the set-up.
As you can probably guess the tank is an old aquarium that became redundant this Christmas as we got a BiOrb.
So instead of throwing it out I thought I would have a go at keeping FBT's (only got them 4 days ago).
I got the tank about 4 years ago, going very cheaply at a garden centre, I think it was about £15 including submersible pump with combined lamp, & a pack of 3 filters (nylon mesh bags containing activated carbon).
Only after buying the tank did I find out the reason it was so cheap, that was because it’s an American make & you can’t get the replacement filters here in the UK, although just recently I’ve seen them on eBay and our local aquatics store has just started stocking some very similar but not made by Tetra.
It uses Tetra Whisper Junior filters, luckily I have some good friends in the USA & Canada and they send/bring filters over every year.
The tank is made and supplied by a company called Hawkeye International, & it’s an Aquafall-505 and its approx 40cm (16”) wide by 25cm (10”) deep & 30cm (12”) high (minus lid/filtration unit)

I have modified the tank slightly for my FBT’s.
Firstly I got a longer piece of tubing for the pump as it has to sit lower due to water levels. I also cut a small strip of Perspex and glued it over some of the holes/slots in the lid so that it rains only into the water side (if you look closely at the photo you can just make it out – highlighted in white)

The price in US$ is very good (see second link above), but shipping would probably make it an uneconomical choice.
