My opinion is that as we have so many native species under threat we should do all we can to protect these we have regardless of the cost.

Councillor Barrie Hardern called the £60,000 cost of the scheme before the school could build "ludicrous".

Looks like its this bloke.

haha well theres no way they'll let them do it: endangered animals can stop the trains running there so important. And GCN's are always protected, even wen that government building was being built.

What annoys me is, it seems the smaller the animal the less importance it has.
Had this of been 4 endangered elephants living in that pond i'm pretty sure the cost of relocation wouldn't be frowned upon half as much.

i agree with up, here is what i also think is annoying: IMO the most endangered animal on the planet is partula nodosa, but no-one is trying to save it compared to the amount of people trying to save the big, cuddly polar bear, which isnt half as endangered. Another example is the harlequin frogs on mondays life in cold blood: they are now soo endangered they've all been taken into captivity, BUT still we are told that african lions are nearly extinct. The partula snail is basically extinct now! the lion still has quite a few lions in the wild not to mention hundreds aswell in captivity. Its because reps, amphibians (and especially) inverts are treated as being "evil, slimy, disgusting"

We were discussing this at work today and their consultants must have seen them coming a mile off. This is a phenomenal price for a newt survey and relocation program!!

Its good to hear they are getting this treatment but that was way more money than needed.Do they not have some kind of captive breeding program.
