Default Jellyfish

Picture I just took of the jellyfish in my nano reef tank. It never gets tired, it just keeps swimming, swimming, swimming.

Wow! Thats awesome!

Where'd you get that, just your LFS? I've never seen those for sale before.

Its a filter feeder is it? Do you put zoo/phyto -plankton in? Whats its life expectancy in a tank? Is it alright with the powerheads in the tank?

Thats well cool

I have to say, I really dont know about life expectancy although I can imagine that its probably not all that long. They eat like any coral really would (not that jellyfish are corals just same feeding habits), filter feeding, catching small fish and insects. Its ok in a nano tank with very very low water movement. Any current at all will move that jellyfish around the tank without much effort. If you ever get the chance, get one yourself, they are just hypnotizing to watch.

Thanks for the reply This really intruiged me, very cool it is.

I dont have a marine tank anymore, but if I do get one again, its something I will have to look into, it looks amazing.

Did you just get it at your local fish shop then? Was it expensive?

Why do you call it a "nano" reef tank what does that mean??

Jelly fish are cool. And that little dude is a sweetie.

Just a very small reef tank, like 60 litres or so. It is more difficult to keep the water parameters aqequate in these tanks (being such a small water volume), and so they are not recommended for beginners, but they look very cool.

I know what nano means but when it was applied to the sentence it was used in i wasn't sure whether it was applicable to the animals or not i suppose it would be a stupid thing to try and keep large animals in a small tank.

Thanks for clearing that up and i say again the little jelly fish is the first i have come across anyone keeping.

Ah cool. Wow! Thats an amazing price?! Does that imply it doesn't have a massive life expectancy? Maybe not?

Like Ashmashmash said, the tanks are really small. As small as .5 gallons to about 20 gallons(sorry not good with metric, Im from the US) depending on who you talk to. And they are harder to maintain than larger tanks because the chemical, salt, temperature, etc levels fluctuate so much. The jellyfish must be in one of these small tanks because larger tank usually (not always) have stronger water movement/flow. Also the jellyfish have no brain so when they get stuck between two rocks they may need a little assistance out and that is much easier to do with smaller tanks. My tank is only 8 gallons. I also have a 46 gallon tank but water moves too fast for such a delicate creature.
