A day in the life of...

2.30am.- "Call an ambulance Paul, this is too much pain, something has gone wrong, I cant breath".
- "I am not waiting for an ambulance, I can get you to the hospital in less than l0 minutes".
- "I'm dying, I cant take this pain, dont let me die Paul".
- "Your not gonna ******* die, now lie down in the back seat, we'll be there in ten".
In all the years I have known her, I have never seen her like this, she has a high threshold of any type of pain, she never complains, never whinges, she's as tough as "Old boots".
I help her through the A&E double doors, she slumps into a wheelchair, I go to move the chair, its stuck to the other "Chairs on wheels", I pull hard to free it, too hard though, she lets out a cry of pain..."Sorry"...I drag her through another set of doors, down a corridor, and up to a counter...
2.45am. - "Can someone help here, my wife is in a lot of pain, she had an operation at another hospital 6 days ago, and she has got progressively worse".
- "I dont actually work here". says someone in a blue uniform.
- "We need you to bring her file here 1st". says a nurse.
- "I'm gonna get her file at reception, just help her".
I cant remember her date of birth at the best of times, so its no wonder I get it wrong and tell the receptionist the 1st of the 1st, instead of the 18th of the 1st.
When I get back to the ward, the nurse is taking what looks like, a lot of blood out of her arm. Then she slowly injects her some pain relief. A male nurse "Hooks her up" with some other pain relief shortly afterwards.
3.00am.- Chest xray. 4.00 am. Stomach xray.
4.30 am. - "Raymond makes his entrance"...The emergency ward is packed out, so the medical staff set Raymond up were the waiting area/chairs are, beside us...only a curtain seperates us from "Raymond"...
To be continued...T.T.
