Default rat breeding query

i recently acquired two lovely adult females, and one male (quite smaller as younger)..i tried introducing them and the result wasnt good,..the females were absolute nightmares, biting, flattening the poor little dude..a few hours later things seemed to have settled with the male 'standing his ground' a bit more so i went to bed..this morning,he was still in the corner where he was the night before, looking like he'd done 10rounds with tyson, and with a large chunk missing from his tail..ive taken him out at the moment (he is in a separate container and ill get him a proper set up later today) but i want to use them as a breeding trio! any ideas?

Give the poor lad a fighting chance lol, set him up in his own cage then introduce a single female at a time for his attentions. The girls are less likely to give him a seeing to when on his territory and without her nest mates back up, there will be scraps but at least he's got a chance lol.

like already said introduce one at a time on his teritory but if they go back into the females cage totally clean and wash it and move things about then they will see it as neutral teritory, gd luck my boys spent two weeks ignoring each others presence and now they are joined at the hip.

I'd give him a wk to recover, rats come into season every 5 days or so, pretty much anytime once he's settled will be fine by him lol.

How much younger is the male???
If under 4 months I'd let him grow up a bit before intro'ing him to the girls.
Personally I dont' use a buck under 8/9 month old. By this time he will be almost fully grown and more than capable of looking after himself.

I wouldn't leave them together 24/7 even when he is old enough. It's too much for the girls. After a couple of ltters back to back the quality of food items they will produce will go downhill dramatically.
If you need a constant supply of rats then I'd have more than the two does you have and breed them with the same buck or even have 2/3 bucks as well.

If you're breeding them to feed all your reps you are going to need quite a few does to have enough food items to suffice. You'll also need 'growing on' tubs for the babies that you need to grow up a little.

If your does are still aggressive towards him try putting osme olive oil on his back and and this usually makes them lick him, by the time they've licked all the oil off they have made freinds.
Doesn't always work but worth a try!!!!!!

not all of our reps are on rats, we did the calculations (!) hence the two does, the additional cage for the male was always on the cards as i want each female will have a 'resting' period in between litters and to have their own space with the young ones etc..was just surprised they were so mean!!!

bti late for breeding them really.. i would say 6 months girls should be.. and male at least 9 month so he is mature strong enough to handle the two ladies.. also they may fight if not in season as they get pestered for mating.

btw when you females had a litter there is chance of them not able to cope since a yea old too.. why its best to have a litter before they reach a yer tbh.

make sure girls get a rest too
