Just curious - and i wasn't dirrecting the thread at anyone, (just so no one starts an argument)
I've never bought to sell on. I always bought to add to my collection with the intention to breed. I have now sold most of my collection as I'm giving the hobby up.

If we have something up for sale, and want cash rather than swaps, and someone offers us a swap..

If we think about going for the swap, we always tell the person we may sell the animals on, if it's not something we were looking to add to our collection, or if we were wanting the cash towards something...

But generally, if we buy things, it's because we want them

My problem is I just can't part with them. I bought a double viv in the past that came with a royal and a corn. I told the person it was mainly the viv I was buying for and would be getting rid of the corn. By the time I got her home and handled her I realised she was mine for keeps.
All my snakes are pets.
I will be selling some hatchlings soon and my biggest concern is will they be looked after rather than will they be sold on. I have no problem with someone making a profit on them as long as they care for them in the way that I would.

Would people not sell to me? Cornmorphs? or Ballpiefun? because we have imported from the U.S? and may sell on.

I know there are some serious issues within this thread; ie health and animal welfare. But i wouldnt want snakekeepers to get so offensive nor defensive or even 'stuck-up', like certain tort'keepers!
Just for the record, I am only interested in buying direct from breeders in the US, so it is very unlikely that you would be selling to me. I have only ever purchased the one cornsnake, within the last 5 years, from an RFUK member, a beautiful Golddust female (Goldie) from Ian, as a pet and mate for my son's male Golddust. I just couldn't resist her.

However, if I was to sell her on, which I will not be doing in the forseeable future, I wouldn't feel any obligation to let Ian know unless he specifically asked me to do so, which he didn't.

The vast majority of the corns that I bring in to the UK from the US are pre-ordered and therefore I do not regard them as mine as they are not with me long enough for me to become emotionally attached to them.

However, those that I have grown on from hatchlings to yearlings (my corns), whose characteurs I have got to know over the year, will only be sold to people who I know are capable and willing to keep them in the style to which they have become used to. I hope these people will take equally as much care if they ever decide to sell them on but it is not something I can control.

I would not sell one of my corns to somebody who I thought was just trying to make a quick profit.

Cheers,
Patrick.

Actually that's not true. I did also buy a batch of adult corns from a member called Greenphase (or something like that) a couple of years ago but I sold them on after about 12/18 months, at a loss rather than a profit, when I decided that breeding was not really my thing and that I was happier importing hatchlings and growing them on.

Cheers,
Patrick.

No, I took no offence at all. I realised you were using my name as an example of somebody who sold quite a few corns but I just wanted to make it clear that the vast majority of those that I sell are purchased directly from the breeders in the USA on behalf of people who have pre-ordered them and that I have no intention of buying from people in the UK to sell on at a profit.
