no but one of the major points against it...is the fact some people genuinely dont know what to offer! there's lots of snakes which are not regularly offered for sale and so unless you've got them and have bought them you dont know what they are worth... e.g. I havent seen that many mangrove snakes for sale, and I do not know what they tend to fetch, but I would like one. now if mangroves were to sell for say £400 on average, I would be willing to save up and get one for that, so therefore, you could argue, im happily willing to pay £400 for a mangrove but thats not true, if they only sell for an average of £100, im only willing to pay about £100, give or take a few '£' depending on the individual snake. If you dont know the value of the snake, then you dont know what you are willing to pay. you dont want someone to snap up your offer of £400, to find out you could have got it a week later for £100, but if it is worth £400, and you offer £100, you;re gonna lose your chance to get the snake! it just causes problems ![]()

Thats not the sellers fault though if you dont know how much its worth then you need to be doing more research into something you want to buy. I would sell mangroves all day long for £400 if people are daft enough to buy them!

Just stating offers should be banned, most people know the snakes value or what they are willing to accept. If you put a ball park figure say £150 and then ONO or ONVO, it just gives people a starting point to negotiate from and cuts down on time.
I also think if your selling something the price should be stated up front, instead of pm me for a price, what is there to hide??? ![]() |

My point exactly.... ...I myself, would rather not con people into paying more for something that they should be. I'd rather sell someone a snake for a fair price knowing im helping a keeper get the reptiles they want, ideally what i'd like other people to do for me. It's not always an easy thing to research, I've just done google searches in the uk, and found one magrove for sale...which was wild caught and fussy eater, with no price just offers....other than that, all I found was a 2 year old advert, so prices will not be up do date

that is just the way the OP put it across because she lost out on a reptile. If somones asking for offers and say please pm - it's a way of keeping the time wasters from replying on the thread back and forth. |

I agree, i think it would be difficult and impractical to regulate, for an outright ban, but it should be disencouraged. I'm not against, people making offers, or wanting offers, but when they put no ballpark figure its says to me a lazy seller, who wants to sit back, do nothing, get a range of bids and sell to the highest with little interest in who it's going to. I'd sell a reptile cheaper if i knew the home was good. and I don't buy from ''offer'' sellers ![]()
