well I only deal with people online that I can trust that already have a good reputation, or someone that I can go and pick something up from them or they come to me.

I think the important thing is to check out their itrader feedback.

Don't accept cheques as ive recently found out, that if u put a cheque in to be cashed, it states available funds after 4 days.....but the 'sender' can actually cancel the cheque stating lost in post, up to 10 days after it has been reported available in ur account. So if u have already sent out goods, u can be out of pocket.

Try to go and collect ur reptile, wherever possible.

Most importantly, remember not everyone is out there to cheat u, there are some fab people on here and in the trading world in general, just be on ur guard.

i dont know what scams the two mentioned where up to or who they are but you can go through there post count and read up on some of there posts and try to profile there personality and see if they seem genuine .

this is also a good reason for having the itrader feedback system .

if its a normal nigerian scam where you get a dodgy cheque or there selling something super rare for a great price most of these can be seen early enough for you not to send any money or get involved . .

maybe you could explain this comment???

I won't take cheques for anything... I'm reluctant to take paypal but sometimes it's just easier... and only ever for small amounts, you lose far too much in fees, and people just won't pay to cover them most of the time.

I'm still owed £198 by Rob Clements and I feel bad cuz I convinced Mason to go with him, cuz we needed them asap, and he said he would have them with us within 2 weeks. He actually sounded genuine on the phone. Won't make that mistake again.

As it was, we waited 2 months for him to muck us about... and then went with someone else who had them with us in about 4 days!

There's a snake I really really want but she is 6 1/2hrs drive away, I think, so can't exactly pop down tonight and see her, pay cash and collect her. Normally I wouldn't have thought twice about just paying full price and making arrangements to getting her. I am now very warey but don't want to lose her. So what do I do????

It depends who's selling her....

If it's someone with all positive Itrader feedback, in theory, you should be ok

Maybe pay a deposit via paypal, to hold her, and pay the rest of the cash on collection?

We never ask for the full amount in advance, we ask for a deposit to hold, or if it's a long drive, at least the delivery charge paid as well ... but it's mostly cash on collection / delivery.

get some one on here to check it out for you? if you have good feedback then ask them, most reptile keepers are good to one another
