In April, I agreed to sell one of my baby skunks to emmaj after 3 weeks of persuasion. I was warned that I would struggle to get the money for him but I agreed that Emma could pay the £550 in instalments. My decision to let her have a kit was due to wanting my babies to go to experienced homes and I knew that Emma already had 5 skunks so he would be in safe, knowledgeable hands.

2 weeks later, I had a text message from Emma saying that the kit had died.

I had no phone call to date and completely shocked and devastated after raising this baby skunk and finding out he had died, I told Emma to take the money for a post mortem from what she owed me. I was told that the vet could not perform a post mortem for 2 weeks. I believe Emma hoped I would forget about having a pm done but I needed to know what happened so I could find out a) if Emma still owed me the money and b) if the death had been caused by something genetic I would have to make the decision whether to stop breeding my skunks. 2 – 3 days later the body was apparently at the vets.

It is now NINE weeks after the death, Emma still tells me the pm report has not been received from the vet.

I have asked many, many times about the pm report but always get fobbed off with excuses as to why the vet has not given it to her yet. I have even asked for a copy of the receipt to prove that the pm was ever commissioned. I was promised this but it was never produced and Emma stopped answering my messages and phone calls.

The only information I have had is that apparently the “preliminary exam” showed a small indentation in the kit’s skull. It was implied to me that this was a genetic defect which would obviously mean that Emma could get out of paying for the skunk. It seems likely to me that the kit could have been bitten.

This injury to the skull is supposedly what caused the kit to have two seizures and die.

I had a bad feeling when the skunk was collected that he was too little to defend himself and was I doing the right thing sending him to a home with adult skunks? So I asked Emma to promise me she would keep him on her and not dump him on the floor with all her adults and her pack of large breed dogs. Probably one day after she had him, she posted a video showing him running around with the dogs and adult skunks. It seems likely to me that the kit could have been bitten in the head, causing the injury to what would still be a small, soft skull.

Regardless of what the cause of death was (I cannot know as a pm report is not forthcoming) – a FACT agreed on by all and stated in black and white on the Internet BY EMMA via a public forum is that the skunk did not receive any veterinary treatment even though he had a seizure 5 hours before he died. The situation was clearly a critical emergency, a life and death situation. I will not believe that a vet would not want to see an animal who was in a critical state, IMMEDIATELY. Instead, Emma stayed on the phone to friends for advice.



Regarding the payment. Proof to me that Emma does not intend to pay me any money is that she agreed to pay me and asked me to pm her my bank details but despite confirming by text that she knew I had sent the pm, my forum shows that Emma never picked up the pm containing my bank details.

It has been suggested that perhaps if Emma could not afford to pay me for the skunk, maybe she could not afford the vet care when he needed it. So, if this is true – why is she currently buying another skunk kit? I have since found out that Emma already owes at least 3 other parties hundreds of pounds altogether for animals that she has not paid for BUT still gone ahead and purchased animals from other people, I believe she had no intention of paying for my skunk. It is believed that Emma purchased animals recently, did not pay for them either AND put them up for sale and sold them.

If this is what happened to my skunk and he is still alive I want to know.

PLEASE – if you have any information, or any suspicions at all that Emma may have sold a 9 week old black and white classic skunk in April, I have a right to know what happened to him. Also, I am not rich by any means and cannot afford to write off £500 that I am still owed. In fact, my husband was made redundant back in January and is still out of work. We had a visit from the bailiffs yesterday who seized £520 worth of our furniture and belongings. It makes me sick to think that this amount is owed to me by emmaj and she has done this to others.


It is not an easy thing to publish this on an open forum but if anything happens to other animals who were ‘sold’ to Emma in good faith and I didn’t warn the breeder – I would never forgive myself.

It is impossible not to bring emotions into what has been a difficult time for me, not knowing what happened to my little boy – but the facts are that either Emma lied and sold him on when she has not even paid for him or if she is telling the truth and he did actually die, he did not receive any medical help which could have saved his life. Either way, I believe it would be wrong of anybody to sell her any animals, knowing this information.

Slightly different I know but I bought a Sphynx kitten for a reduced price because he was returned to the breeder. She told me I could pay her later as she wanted him settled in a new home. 9 days after I got him he became ill and ended up being put to sleep with breathing difficulties due to FIP. The breeder had insured him for me so I ended up with most of the vet bills payed and the cost of the kitten being refunded to me. I offered this to the breeder as this is what I owed her but she refused to take it saying that I should keep it due to all the upset and me not having a kitten anymore. She certainly never asked for the pm results either.
Surely you cant take money off someone when the skunk has died and even if she had paid for it surely you would have refunded her????????

He was only ever on the floor for photos and under constant watch. Emma adores her animals and if any need vet treatment they get it. I do not believe for one minute you are being rational in your thoughs.
I had texts and calls off Emma over this baby and she was mortified and inconsolable. She couldnt believe that he could have died so soon. If she says she had a pm done then I truly believe her and so should you
