great idea.
its just to easy for these scamming scumbags to set up an account and instantly begin scamming. since this RECS fiasco (which i'm sure most if not everyone on the forum is aware of) i do even bother with classified ads from newly joined members. |

As much as I hate to be negative most of the ideas that I have scanned quickly through arent really practical.
First of all I cant see anyone wanting to give out their details in public. With regards to registering a credit card with the forum, hmmm again does anyone really want to give credit card details to someone they dont know that has no legitimate purpose for haiving them? (I know staff are regarded as a safe bet, and please understand that I am not trying to imply otherwise, however the fact remains that staff are still the same regular forum users in the fact that we dont personally know them) Does RFUK really want to take responsibilty for every sell that goes ti*s up? I doubt it is worth the headache. I have seen staff work hard trying to stop scammers etc, but thats because they choose to help where possible. If people start paying for the service of advertising then surely they're morally obliged to sort all and any messes out with sales gone bad? posts, hmmm well im not a big poster and really dont have much "useful" stuff to write (prefering to read posts rather than make them) that would make it unfair to people who dont choose to write "" nice spider" etc, or give advice about something they may know nothing about just to get the post count. Time? well tbh i dont think it would really help. After all some people who have scammed members have been here certainly longer than 3 months. I dont believe there is any easy way to stop scammers, it's sad but while theres scammers there will always be a way to be scammed despite what precautions are put in place. It really only comes down to one thing, and thats be sensible. Follow the advice of a previous poster regarding buying. No matter how sensible you are, you may still be scammed but hopefully it wont be as easy or as often for would be scammers to do it to you. |

I would say the amount of people "scammed" on here compared to the amount of smooth transactions that happen would be rather low to be honest.
Last night I was called a scammer because I wouldnt post a stat to someone until they had made payment.. I even advised that if he used paypal and didnt use the gift option then he would be covered to a certain degree, To then say I was clearly a scammer is disgusting considering I have never had bad rep regarding anything I have sold. Its all well and good moaning to Moderators but what on earth are they meant to do? You buy stuff at your own risk! Surely the best advice is as many people have said, If it looks to good to be true, It prob is! Pay via paypal were possible and never use the gift option. If the opt is there then ask for recorded del. . . Yes some people have been " scammed " out of a lot of money but 9 times out of 10 you find the people that bitch on these threads are people who have never had a problem they just like jumping on the bandwagon!

I voted yes, my only worry is people who come on here primarily to sell an animal, with no other resources to do so. There's lots of people like that with no luck on preloved and the rest of it.

Who's gonna pay for the postage on these letters? Who's gonna send them? Mods are normal people (most of them.... ) with lives of their own. Not their jobs. Why should they have to send out hundreds of letters per month?
With feedbacks, i've left a feedback for every transaction i've done. But this is not mandatory. And i very rarely get a feedback back. Therefore the award system wouldn't work. And doesn't seem realistic that you can only buy after 10 good feedbacks. Why should i have to buy a minimum of 10 things before i can sell? I always look in the classifieds. Sometimes things catch my eye. Sometimes not. I do think that maybe the post thing and a minimum time to be a member, but not unhelpful posts saying 'nice snake' or 'if only you were closer'. Etc. Also perhaps making feedback mandatory? It does take the piddle sometimes when you go out of your way to leave a feedback but get bugger all back. The only sure way to avoid getting scammed is not send ANY money by ANY means bar cash on collection. I've dealt with paypal / cheque (did so last wk by buying a DS off a member) but as previously said it is a risk. Paypal doesn't always cover you. I lodged a paypal dispute for something off Ebay that cost me £200. I got £18 back cos thats all they could retrieve from his account. Its just a shame tho. Cos it's making the classifieds an uncomfortable place to be in. Everytime i debate buying something i search the sellers user name to see if there is a scammer thread on him / her. |

i know they dont do this fulltime and it not a job to them mate.
Thats why i said it is pretty sure a no go.BUT, perhaps a fee charged to cover this should you want to use classifieds properly? then that covers a little bit of time spent by mods and then the bits and bobs to do this stuff? A bit like a premium membership, a 1 off fee though, just to cover the bits involved in posting letter and authorizing etc? That way, least their IS a record of your details should it be required for whatever purpose. I know a lot of people BROWSE these classifieds, so maybe they can be allowed to browse, and they can probably reserve something they want via PM and then request the paperwork to enable you to buy/sell? Even if its like a 5er, covers the paper/time/postage really doesn't it. ts only got to be a form like: Username: Real name: Address: Contact. No: (maybe) Dont think you really need anymore than that, the form can be returned and throwin into a filing rack or something by username? I dont know, i know its work that mods dont want, but at least it might help ensure a lot less scammers are about. They cant even provide a fake address as they cant return the form that way can they? And if they have it at a pals, then the pal aint gna appreciate police knockin on are they? It seems fairly logical TO ME, but as i said, it is extra work for the already busy mods. |

As i said before a small fee taken of the price of the item / animal maybe one of them could be interested in doing it full time look what happened to ebay just one or two people started that they are now millionaires this would not be direct competion for ebay as they dont allow the sale of most animals so might work also u need some sort of info kept on people if prop set up card details not to be given out to anybody only to the police ect in the case of fraud names and addressess that can be used again in the case of fraud i know this will take time and cost but if u are getting a wage out of it at the very least is it not worth it isee one comment on here about buyers expecting goods to be sent out before payment
which shop do they go to i wonder that will do this none i think so why expect people selling privatly to do this if u dont like dont pay till u collect goods me personaly dont mind paying a small deposit on something i want i sell on ebay and to often people muck u about |
