I dont know why you get so upset about it? The snake doesnt care who is looking after it. They dont get attached to owners like dogs etc so as long as they are being cared for properly by each owner it doesnt't matter.Thats agood thing about our hobby you can move onto new things. I would rather see them being sold on than being kept in bad conditions by a bored owner. Plus alot of people like to move onto new species and if they kept everything they bought they would have vivs overrunning their house. I would hate to have to only keep one or two species and I dont have room for anymore vivs and I aren't waiting till any die till I get a new speces so I will sell.

i feel ashamed that i agree with a moderator but i have to agree with Andy.

If people are willing to recommend 'starter' snakes or reptiles instead of telling them to research what they really want then people will swap and change.
i sold most of mine because i didn't have time and realised i wasn't spending as much time with them as other people. Everybody seems to love reptiles around these parts so as long as they end up in a good home who'll care for them i can't see a problem.

! have 2 (soon to be 4) tortoise hatchlings. I want to establish a breeding group (1 male, 3 females). I wont be able to sex them for 2/3 years at the very least but if I'm top heavy with males I'm going to have to rehome the surplus males. This is as much for their good as mine because the less assertive one(s) will be tormented by the dominant aggressive one(s). I decided I'm going to give them away to a good home rather than attempt to sell them. I never got into this for the money.

Andy, its the atitude that these animals are bought and sold on a whim by SOME people who literally keep them for a couple of months before getting bored. I get the reps i have because i an genuinely interested in them and though there are many species out there i would love to keep, I still appreciate the animals i have and their individual personalities. People who get no attachment to their animals and can sell on a whim seem to ME to have them almost as an ornament/status symbol, not a pet. This is what i percieve to be an issue for me, personally and i wouldn't want to sell any of my reptile's offspring to them.

that's kinda what happened to me and i don't mind admitting it. You get rep, you join a forum and see this that and the other and end up buying a few too many. Some people don't realise they've done it wrong but i did and did what was best for them.
Now i've just got the snake and possibly some frogs in the future when i'm ready for them. I won't be going down the 'oooh look at that' route again.

Yeah but that is just it, how do you know how will look after them properly and who is just blagging you? this is the problem I have, I have sold many of my leo hatchlings over the last 3 years and I have now stopped breeding cuz I was sick of seeing them get passed on, and on again, and on again only to lose touch and then find out they got dumped at a shop as '15 year old Billy started his exams and stopped looking after little Trixiebell'
I am now stuck with 30 leopard geckos (ok so I don't mean stuck with and I wouldn't part with them for the world) but because other people can't commit to their pets for life I have had to give up my hobby breeding as I just can't stand watching them all get passed on.

I have sold leo's in my first year that I intended to breed but my plans took a different direction and I never forgave myself for it, seems the new owner then managed to bring crypto in on an animal from a show and it killed my babies, think it is still ok to buy and then pass on a month later now?

This is the reason you will never see me replying with 'corns are a great starter snake' it's bull poo, if you have done your research and you are willing to put the time in you could have a komodo as your 'starter' reptile and cope just fine.
We all have problems with some reps we keep and always need to refer back to a forum at one stage, be it first reptile or 12th

the only thing that annoys me is when people are very sad to get rid of big snakes due to circumstances and are very upset wish they didn't have to sell but would consider a swap lol
