I don't really understand how if people buy animals for themselves, they then go on and sell them. Everything in my personal collection I buy with the intention of keeping for life and when my health made me sell some of them this year - I sold the babies that I hadn't formed an attachment too yet quite so much, but even one of the yearlings I had to have back (thankfully the buyer was understanding).

But on the flip side, I run a shop, I buy animals in for the shop and I sell them usually without blinking an eye (but I sell them knowing that they are going to the correct homes..)... and some people view their personal life like that too, no attachment at all.

I've actually been upset at customers too - once had a chameleon in for 6 months in the shop, and I did get attached to him, so was considering not selling him. Nice family came, really wanted him, spent a small fortune on his enclosure, so I thought, better let him go, good family, more attention, he's not yours to keep.... a month later they come back in "no, we sold him, he was too expensive to keep", and I was absolutely heartbroken because now I've no idea who has him, or how they're caring for him

I think I'm a bit too emotional about reptiles if anything... I wish I could be a bit more callous

It does annoy me a bit, although I'm a shop - I'm a pet shop. I like to think that I am selling a pet that like a cat or a dog is going to fill a small hole in someones life, and every animal I sell I like to think of having a long and happy life in the correct environment. If people just resell them straight away then it is simply not good for the animals involved.
nice to see that there are some pet shop owners out there that care - i know far too many that are just in it for the money and dont care there the animals go!

People just want to keep up with whats 'in'. They buy something show it off, a new morph or type comes about, as suddenly they no longer have space, or are unable to care for it or work commitments (not saying people dont have these) and the next week they have a wanted ad up or a 'look at my new snake/lizard"

bad owners

I've had to stop replying to a couple of members because they do this all the time.
One thing that does my nut is when someone comes on and is advertising some huge snake and saying they are having to get rid 'because it's too big'. They flaming knew what size it would get when they first got it.
I'm so tempted to reply to those people but I don't. They wouldn't like what I had to say.

I've never got rid of any of my animals other than baby rodents that I've bred.

I currently have 6 rescue rats that are needing homes but unless I can get the correct homes for them they will also stay here.

As for not being able to afford vet bills. Thankfully I've nto been in this situation.
I took in Jamie-c's Bernard X. he's fantastic.
I knew he needed vet treatment when I took him but he's also been diagnosed with a lifelong medical problem since he came. I've no intention of getting rid of him though.
