Default Region 2 DVD's?

Hi can someone explain what Region 2 DVD's actually means please.

Does this mean you need a different type of dvd or would they play on a computer dvd?

Perhaps a basic question, but l dont know what it means.

Thanks

Rory

region 2 dvds play on UK dvd players, the USA are region 1 so those DVDs wouldnt work on a UK player unless you have a code to unlock the player, some dvds are region free and play on any player, im not sure whether PCs play any region im afraid, but you can buy an ebook on ebay with codes for loads of different dvd players so you can unlock yours.

NTSC is an analogue television/video encoding standard used in the USA, Canada, Japan. In the UK we use PAL.

NTSC uses 525 line/60Hz (480i), PAL uses 625 lines at 50Hz (576i).. most modern equipment should cope with both.

Well. In theory, if someone recorded a tv programme in the USAto VHS it wouldn't work on a UK VCR, as they are encoded different - you'd have to convert it first.

If the DVDs are NTSC then you'll need an NTSC compatible DVD player and an NTSC compatible television. I'd expect any reasonably modern equipment (less than 10-15 years old?) to be fine, but it should be mentioned somewhere in the manual of your equipment anyway.

If the DVDs are region 2, then they'll work on any UK bought equipment that hasn't been fiddled with. Region 1 DVDs need region 1 DVD player, or a multiregion DVD player - as has been said lots of DVD players have codes that can be entered to change their region or to make them multiregion.

i they state they are region 2 (uk pal) then your dvd player will play them.
if they state they are region 1 (ntsc usa)
then your dvd player will need a code to make it play all regions. go here to see if your dvd player is listed www.vcdhelp.com
left hand side scroll down to lists then click dvd hacks. then enter your model.
if so then print the code and follow instructions, 99% you enter using the remote.

if playing on the pc then download vlc player ( free d/load) it will play all formats.
if playing on pc you have to a dvd rom drive.
