These tortoises are great, they don't tend to be aggressive and are a great beginner tortoise. You have the choice between the eastern and western hermann tortoise. The eastern one is much more common and will grow bigger. It's better to take a tortoise which is over a year old as there is less risk of shell deformity. My eastern hermann was about 2 years old when I bought it, I fed it the right things and provided the right lights and its shell is lovely and smooths 2 years on. My western tortoise which I bought very young (about 3 months old) shows signs of MBD. It isn't a ,ot, but it looks like she grew too fast. I fed her the same way as my other tortoise, just less food. They have to be bathed regularly particularly when young so they don't get dehydrated. They can be out during the summer months which is a bonus.

Easy starter tortoise

I think this tortoise is one of the best starter ones. You do need to think about hibernation.Mine are laid back and get on well in there group. They do dig but not as much as some. They are easy to feed with the weeds.They are active and love the garden. You do need to have a safe place in the garden. You need to watch they dont dig out of the run.I keep them in a rabbit cage indoors. Mine are slow growing. Its not good to over feed and grow to fast

I love the way they come running for there weeds. I think they look good and love the shells on them.I like the fact they are so easy to keep and dont stress as easaly as other torts. I like the fact you can put them down for hibernation in winter. This means i dont have to struggle to get food

A great tortoise as long as from a good breeder

a great tortoise for beginers, no tortoise is easy to care for but these do not have unusual needs. You must be happy to hibernate your pet inorder to have this species. Requires good size open top tortoise table not a viv, and access to large outdoor space during better weather.

Easier to care for than some species. No tortoise is easy to care for, but hermanns do not have any complex or unusual care needs
A more outgoing species. Obviously some are shy, but we have found on the whole they are one of the more outgoing and friendly species
Great charactors, from friendly to grumpy they all have great little personalities.

Slovenian imports and other imports.
Cost- as with and species tortoises are costly and you should be aware of this prior to buying one.
