Good as a treat
| Comments |
They are good as a treat, my leopards love these to chase around and never leave any behind.
We buy the larger ones for my beardies and for the bosc monitors as they love to chase them!
They are around the same price as the crickets at my local rep shop but they isn't many in a tub compared to the crickets.
I highly recommend buying as a weekly treat etc if you don't really fancy spending extra money as you would have to buy more tubs. Also reptiles can become abit fussy with other livefood if they aren't given a vararity.

Better than Crickets!
| Comments |
When i first went to buying locusts, i kept asking myself why haven't bought these all along? Now i try and buy them all the time. Basically, they are pretty much better than crickets in every possible wa. They look nicer and are certainly cleaner than crickets, they do not make noise (YES!!!), there more nutritional than crickets, in my experience they are more stupid than crickets (and i found crickets are very clever), which also makes them slower so they are easier to catch and do go and hide in small gaps, and finally, my beardies love them!

There nutrition is so much better than crickets.
They are very easy to catch, for me and the lizards.
They are nice looking and clean
|

Slightly more expensive, which can be annoying.
I sometimes find there are less in a tub say if i bought exactly the same tub of crickets.

I prefer to use locusts to crickets, as they are much slower moving and don't jumo around like crazy, I just seem to be able to handle these better than crickets. My cresties (I have 3) all love locusts, I think they would like any food to be honest, but I prefer to give them locust, and they seem to be more filling for them aswell! No escape locusts as yet compared to the 10's of crickets that have escaped!!!!!
Recommend to anyone that you should try locusts for crestie and not just crickets (Urgh!)

1) I can actually pick these up, as they are not as jumpy as crickets
2) Don't make me cringe
3) Cresties seem to love them
4) Nice size
4) Keep well

A superb livefood.. but not the cheapest option.
| Comments |
Locusts are my prefered staple feeder insect for leopard geckos, bearded dragons and chameleons etc.
I've yet to find an animal that doesn't eat them and they come in an excellent choice of sizes.
Best kept warm and dry with a bit of dandelion leaf to chew on. I find them particularly good as a first food for hatchling beardies and leopard geckos.
|
| Liked about it |
Very nutritious, gut-load with some veg and a few fish flakes or commercial gut-load formula for best results.
They make a good, meaty morsel for your herp and are easier to digest than some other live foods
They 'go further' than other live foods. Their high nutritional value mans your pet is getting more out of it's meal and so needs to eat relitively less.
|
| Didn't like |
They are so expensive these days! Do appreciate though that they are more expensive to produce than mealworms or crickets so you get less individuals in the box than you would crickets.
They dont last so long as mealworms
They (like most feeders) can bite... dont throw more locusts into your viv than your pet can eat in one sitting as uneaten locusts are a health hazard to your herp
So an excellent food item but not the best value for money weight for weight.

No breeder sells these species of locust buying tubs from locustdirect on ebay or on locust-direct.com you get more than 10 in a tub .
| Comments |
With its drought-resistant egg stage, short life cycle with 2'4 generations per year, high fecundity and highly gregarious behaviour, the Brown locust regularly produces Eggs and are usually laid in dry soil and during the summer months will hatch approximately 10 days after 15'25 millimetres (0.6'1.0 in) of rain has fallen. Under drought conditions, eggs enter various states of diapause and quiescence and can remain viable for up to 3 years. As breeders we have spent over a year studying and gathering information on how to combine the perfect conditions and selection of scientific classification of species . very difficult to breed.
The brown locust, Locustana pardalina, is a medium-sized small locust species with large heads found in Southern Africa and shows classic gregarious behaviour ideal for feeding your reptile , they dont climb up glass ( or poo on the glass and dont smell unlike the green desert locust Schistocerca gregaria) eating bran, cabbage , but no iceberg lettuce .Adult Brown locust are quite large with huge thighs very meaty ideal for large dragons Turtles..........

Good Food.
| Comments |
I always buy locust now, they are easier to keep than crickets (in my oppinion) and they are not as vicious.s
I find that my gecko loves them, she gobbles them up straight away, they seem to be easy enough for her to catch also. They are also good for tarantulas, it gives them a good hunt but still fairly easy too catch.

That i can pick them up, they are the only live food i can actually handle and not be bothered.

EASY FOOD
| Comments |
Locusts are better for your pets than any other feeder insects on the market, they have a great nutritional balance but you generally get less per tub than any other too, they are the same price as most feeder insects but because you get less you need to buy them more frequently, they live quite long and eat anything you give them, they do bite and will not mind having a nibble on your pet should they not get eaten, so it is advisable to remove any uneaten prey before "dimming" your pets enclosure for the night.

eat anything you give them so perfect for gut loading.

Great insects
| Comments |
I love the locust as they are the only insects which make your reotile work for them as i dont know about anyone else but i hate a lizard so i give all my lizard locust so that they are kept on theyre toes so to speak lol.
|
| Liked about it |
They last quite long , will eat almost anything as it is important to gut load feeder insects so your reptiles get a much nutrition as possible , easy to keep and dont call like cricktes which i hate and also they are easier to catch unlike crickets as they just jump anywhere yet crickets run behind back of fridge under beds , sofas i just dont like crix at all and lucky my geckos dont like them either .
|
| Didn't like |
Wish they were more in a pack as i always end up having none left as my geckos devour them lol , also wish it was easier to breed them as i end up buying a pck every week which is like £2.50 a week plus my other bugs i get as all reptiles like a bit of variety so to speak

Bosc loves them
| Comments |
We get these for the bosc to make a change from the other foods
You dont get as many in the tub but then these are a reps version of sweets.
They are more fatty then crickets so we dont feed them often. I do think they are good value as long as you buy from the right place.
I have found its better to buy from my local rep shop as when i buy online we often got dead ones in the tub
We have found them to be great for adding vitamins to before feeding to the reps.

My niece's beardie prefers these to crickets and loves to fill his belly up with them. You do not get a lot in a tub which is the only downfall. I like that you can feed these up so the term you are what you eat really apllies to this.

A great live food
| Comments |
Well worth buying, people say you get less in a tub but their much, much bigger than crickets. So realy you get less but theirs much more meat to them so your lizard needs less than it would with crickets. The medium ones are ideal because the adults fly and can be a real pain, where the medium ones cant fly but can jump a fear bit. Their very healthy for you lizard and best of all they dont make that anoying, anoying sound.
|
| Liked about it |
-1 Their quite big so can be great for things like tegus and moniters.
-2 They dont make a sound.
-3 Very cheap off ebay.

-1 Can be very expensive if bought from pet shops.
-2 If they get out they run up walls.
-3 If they mature they can fly
