Okay so where to start? I love these animals, I really do, However as a pet i've given it a low rating, due to it not being for the weak-hearted.
Do you value your house looking nice and your curtains being in once piece? Do you mind giving it all and getting no appreciation in return? Do you like your life as it is? If you answered yes, then think again about an iguana.
Basic care, with regards to heat and humidity is pretty simple. however these animals grow really big, really fast. Most serious iguana keepers convert a large proportion of a room just for the iguana... or leave them to free roam. However if you do this theres lots to consider. An iguana will destroy everything it gets near, and try to climb whatever it cant destroy. So if you are in the little bit house proud, an iguana is not for you.
Behaviour is where most keepers stumble when it comes to iguanas. You may think that baby iguana is cute and tame. However chances are the poor thing is simply too terrified to do anything.
Wait until it grows two feet, and gets a good helping of hormones... you'll soon realise your cute baby is nothing but a terror. He'll want to be the boss of you, and from there the fun begins. This is also, unfortunately, the age when most iguanas get tossed from person to person, as people dont realise how fierce they can be.
"Taming" as some people call it, can be a long process. With some iguanas never calming down at all. I am a believer that iguanas can never be fully tamed. However you can earn their trust... with a lot of work. And in turn earn the right to be around them and near them without being bitten and whipped to shreds. And if you shy from hard work, and simply think it'll calm down... then do yourself a favour.. go get a pet rock. These creatures are usually around the 6foot mark, and you dont want an animal that size against you.
And if you dont believe me, ask around. I'm sure theres plenty of iguana keepers with plenty of scars to prove it.
If you can stick it out however, you can have yourself a wonderful and rewarding "pet". They are so fascinating, intellegent, and simply magnificent to look at. I wouldn't change my own for the world, even his bad attitude. He's still territorial, and still whips whilst in his tank, however once you get him out you can take him in the garden, and he simply loves a bath.
If you do think you can overcome all the obstacles an iguana gives you, then please consider this as a last note. Due to people not doing their research before purchasing one of these lovely animals, there are plenty out there that need good homes. Often they have not been given the best start, however with hard work they can calm down as much as an iguana from a shop.

Amazing creatures that need a lot of care

An amazing creature that sadly dies a lot in captivity as people don't realize their needs.
An adult iguana can easily grow to 6' in just a few years, just imagine what space such an arboreal lizard need and what will happen if she decides to get aggressive for some reason and tail whip and bite you.
However if you are willing to tame one, give her a balanced thought out diet and a suitable habitat then I go suggest you get them, but do yourself a favor and buy some books about iguana (such as the one by James Hatfield) and research about them before you even begin to work on their habitat.

I have currently kept 3 iguanas so far to date only having one in my care now, they are definately a large lizard, the carehseets and information you may read are not lieing when they say this lizard is not for the faint hearted, growing over 5-6ft being unusually aggresive compared to most this is not an ideal begnner pet they have sharp teeth? razar sharp claws, and a powerful tail.... research research research and gain hands on expirience where ever possible before aquiring there care is nothing compared to most.

I have always loved iguanas and think I can mange them better than what some could--- just meaning I dont mind being lashed and scratched. They are beutiful animals and I was drawn to them because of there colours and resemblence of a true dinosaur in the making.
They can be tamed with effort but dont expect the 100% result you are looking for. This is an ideal pet to an expirienced person and a challange.

Many people may not like iguanas due to there aaggresive nature, sometimes we just have to accept that that is the way they are---- in these cases its better to sit back and watch them in there natural form rather than looking at them as a pet!
