Australian Softie featured

Comments Aspidites ramsayi or The Woma Python comes from Australia...locality Fort Bourke and New South Wales.

The adult Woma is a brown indistinctly banded snake with a pale smudged belly. Overall colouration of the adults ranges from pale yellowish brown to reddish brown, some can also be plain brown or olive. The head is almost always unmarked and can often be a paler colour.

Juviniles can be quite stunningly beautifull snakes with great contrast and a yellow to gold head...work has been done to try and breed these pythons to retain more of their juvinile colouration.

The Woma is a medium-sized python, it is fairly slender, but still a powerfull constrictor..Adults get to around 3 meters. Womas do well in captivity they like a warm dry vivarium, with temps up and arond 30c. They love to dig, so keepers should be mindfull of this when decorating their viv and not arrange heavy cage props where the python could dig underneath and collapse it onto itself. They can be kept on newspaper wih hides and a sturdy branch, or on rep-bark with cork hides and a flat stone under a heatlight for basking.

Womas Make the most docile of captives, and will become more of a "Pet" than any of your other reps.
In nature Womas consume mammals and reptiles ,but in captivity they will thrive on a diet of domesticated rodents. Although Womas have been known to consume snakes in the wild, specimins of equal-size may be housed together without incidence of cannibalisim.
Not easy to source, but more available now they are being Captive Bred, i would recommend Womas to experienced keepers or those with a good few years looking after reps!

Liked about it Very docile and tractable nature.
Understated beauty.
I just love it because its Australian..I love all the Australian Pythons!

Didn't like Nothing i didnt like about this gorgeous Python.

wonderful auzzie snake

Comments Woma Pythons are a small Australian python. They are one of two members of the Aspidites genus, the other being the Black headed Python. They are a primitive python species, and the only ones who do not posses heat sensing labial pits.

A Woma Pythons pattern consists of a ground colour that varies from olive & medium brown to lighter shades of orange/red, overlaid with darker striped markings.

Womas have lightly coloured heads ranging from brown, orange or yellow with the scales being a lot darker near the eyes, a lot like Pandas.

Size:

Generally Woma Pythons reach between 4-6 ft, females are typically larger than males reaching around 6ft.

Substrate and Water Needs:
For bedding you can use a variety of things, Pine & Cedar are to be avoided as these are toxic to reptiles. You can use newspaper or paper towel which are cheap but not very appealing. Aspen or Auboise is your best bet, it's cheap and it looks good.
You will need a fair sized water bowl, one the snake can submerse its body in.

Lighting and UVB:
Womas have no special lighting requirements but if you do use a bulb, please ensure the light has a bulb guard to avoid your snake from being burnt.

Temperatures & Humidity:

Your Woma should be kept at temperatures between 28 - 32'C.

To achieve these temperatures several heating devices can be used such as:

? Heatmats

? Basking/Infrared Bulbs

? AHS heaters

? Ceramic bulbs

These are down to personal preference & all should be used with the appropriate Thermostats to control the temperature & avoid overheating.

Woma Pythons humidity should be around 40%.

A moss box can be provided when they are shedding to help assist them but this is not usually necessary.

If help is needed choosing heating/thermostat options, please do not hesitate to contact us & we will guide you in the right direction.

Housing:
An adult Woma Pythons can be housed in a 4ft x 2ft x 2ft vivarium.

Young Womas are best kept in small tubs, with secure hides as they may go off feeding if they feel insecure.

Provide them with 2 hides, one in the hot end & one in the cool end, an appropriately sized water bowl should also be provided.

Older Womas can be housing housed in 50L tubs or a 4x2x2ft vivarium if big enough.

Diet:
Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

Young Womas are able to take fuzzies on their first feed.
You should be able to start feeding your snake on fuzzies, if they are on the smaller side, then large pinkies. You may feed them every 5 to 7 days at this point.

As the snake grows it will need larger prey items. You will know when they need to go up a size once you can't see the food item in their belly anymore.

Older snakes should be fed on an appropriately sized meal every 2-3 weeks to avoid becoming overweight.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:
Generally supplementations are not needed but I feel that calcium should be used for breeding females to help the production of eggs, to replace the females calcium levels & prevent them from becoming egg bound.

Liked about it beautiful snake
wonderful patterns
very docile

Didn't like nothing this amazing snake has no down sides

Im my opinion best starter snake.

Comments If you can get the money to pay for this snake (in the UK at the moment you can find them from £200 to £400 easy!) they make an ideal starter snake!
They are hardy, need simple care (much like a royal) and grow to the same length.
They are also as calm as Royals but do hell of alot more rather than sit there all day doing nothing and most of all they feed easily!
Heating wise 31C on hot end with mat or cermic with thermostat and 26c on cool end.
Nice water bowl, a few hides and Asped is the ideal substrate! Simples
Babies and yearlings can live in a 35lr RUB easy... if not bigger.
Adults will only need a viv as big as 4x2x2.
Great snakes!!

Liked about it Calm but always on the move
Great feeders and hardy
Stunning animals!

Didn't like They are expensive although many people will pay 1000s for a snake so £200 isnt that much for a snake that will get you started and well!
