A great idea, just needs to be thought through

Comments This product is a useful tool for any reptile or amphibian keeper. The feeding rock is a fantastic feeding accessories, the concept being that you put your crickets, or any other feeder insect small enough to get through the hole and that are wiling to come out, into the feeding rock put on the lid remove the bung and place in the reptiles enclosure. For many reptile keepers it couldn't get much easier than that. You could also dust your crickets with a supplement powder before placing the feeding rock in your reptiles enclosure, simply add the correct amount of powder to the feeder and shake gently but thoughtfully until the feeder insects are coated then remove the bung and put the feeder in the enclosure. Also if you have put too much calcium powder in the feeder it can be saved in the feeder until the next feed.
The only real downside is that if the crickets don't want to come out then they won't come out, there's no proper way of gauging how many feeder insects have come out of the feeder. Also it can get very hot inside the feeder resulting in the crickets dieing. However, if you're a reptile keeper that believes in natural enrichment this feeder would be ideal, you just need to make sure all the crickets come out.

Liked about it 1. A great way of giving your reptiles natural enrichment.
2. Adds a natural look to your vivarium.
3. Offers an easy way of dusting crickets with supplement powder.

Didn't like The crickets don't always want to come out and play.
They can quickly die if left in the feeder because of the high temperatures in the feeder.

Just chuck the bugs in yourself!

Comments the whole purpose behind this product is to offer a novel way of offering live food to lizards, the idea is to put crickets into the rock which is actually hollow, add your calcium/vitamin/mineral powder add the lid, lightly shake and then remove the stopper and let the crickets come out at their own pace causing your animal to hunt for a prolonged period of time.

However this product is flawed in a few ways, firstly the hole is ridiculously small and nothing but little crickets are getting out of their, so no good if you have a lizard that likes larger prey, their is no guarantee the crickets are gonna come out of the rock and many usually end up dying, also if you have a medium sized lizard like a beardie who likes to knock stuff over then they can easily topple the rock and the lid falls off making a mess and releasing the crickets.

its a nice idea but your better of just chucking them in yourself

Liked about it nice idea of providing enrichment to lizards
looks alright in most desert type set ups
easy to clean

Didn't like hole is to small to let larger prey get out so cant be used with anything other than tiny crickets
no guarantee the crickets are gonna come out and many end up dying

A good solution

Comments This is a good piece of equipment for feeding your reptiles in a natural and easy way. It can be put in the enclosure with the crickets inside, take the side cap off, and they slowly crawl out only to be spotted by your reptile and eaten up. For £7.99 it is really not bad, as you can supplement the crickets inside with ease, and provide a natural way to feed your live food. Reccomended!

Liked about it Its natural
Provides some exercise for your reptiles
It easy and simple

Didn't like Crickets may not come out, and may eventually die.

Good idea

Comments I use this all the time in my whites tree frog enclosure, and it goes really well with the decor and doesnt look out of place. It is a good design and looks good in alot of enclosures. You can dust the crickets in the rock, to prevent dust getting all in the tank. My frogs sit on the top of it and wait for a cricket to come out, which is funny to watch.

Liked about it Easy to clean
Natural design/colour
Looks nice

Didn't like Its not certain all the crickets will come out, i find its most active ones that come out, and the others dont and then die in the rock. So try and choose active crickets to put in.

Provides enrichment and stimulation for lizards

Comments There are three parts to this item. The main cave, the lid for the cave, and a small stopper. You take the lid off, fill the inside with crickets (can be used with locusts or waxworms too). You then take the stopper off when you are ready for your livefood to come out, and some of it may choose to exit and walk into the enclosure. It tends to be a slow trickle as the insects don't all charge at once. You can also add the calcium or multivitamin powder inside the rock and shake it to make sure it's distributed, or put food in there to gutload them.

Some lizards are quite intelligent, and I have seen lizards sit by the hole (especially my bearded dragons!) and wait for the livefood to come out - they learn that the food comes from this hole, just as they would wait outside an insect nest in the wild. Any enrichment that stimulates your lizards mind and emulates the natural environment will help keep them stress free, happy & healthy.

Liked about it The top three things I like about this are

- Natural design
- Easy to clean
- Adds some enrichment / stimulation for the lizard

Didn't like This product depends upon the crickets actually coming out of the hole. There's no guarantee that the crickets will actually exit, especially if there is food inside, therefore you can't always guarantee your lizard will get fed the correct amount. It's probably best to give them their regular food, and then use this as an enrichment/supplementation device, rather than the main food source just in case the food decides to camp inside for a week! It also gets very hot inside the rock as well as on top of it, most livefood will die at very hot temperatures and lives longer at cool temperatures, so place it on the cool side of the tank, not directly under or on top of heat sources.
