its a weird catch 22 situation about descenting skunks...Although its not allowed, some vets will do it as they're not allowed to treat skunks that arn't descented...
cute though.

Which vets will descent? Unless it is proven for medical reasons, any interference with the soft tissues falls under the mutilations sectio (5) of the AWA.

Our vets don't agree with it at all but they wouldn't go against it for fear of prosecution and revokation of thier license

lol well good on them I say - the act is very silly in this particular area. You are in a situation either way - vets can't decent and won't treat full skunks! Either way, you face prosecution

Not true, Fred our 'whole' skunk is welcome at our vet's practice should we have need to take him there.

you can also email Seb at jungle talk heres a link to his skunk page
Jungletalk

he has been breeding skunks for years and his knowledge is excellent, He does take deposits and normally has waiting lists so it might be worth popping him an email and seeing if he thinks he will have any more available this breeding season, his skunks are normally around £500ish each (dont quote me the price may have changed) and hes happy to answer any skunk related questions you have, (hes been pestered by me enough in the past anyway)

Hey Lizard Queen, its not that vets are not allowed to treat intact skunks, its that alot wont for one reason or another (worried about spraying in the surgery, dont know enough about them etc) , but there are some that will and do, our vet does BUT if he didnt we would of just paid that little bit extra for a home visit and have the skunk treated at home. Hope that helps

i see, i suppose which vets you happen to be speaking to at the time makes a difference to the information they give you.
From the sounds of it, some vets will and some vets wont descent, or treat intact skunks.
