Default Permanent Home for 7 year old female Somali

I've been asked to re-home a cat which I bred 7 years ago. She is a usual Somali, which means she has an apricot coloured base coat and each individual hair is ticked with bands of black, giving the coat the appearance of a wild rabbit.

I sold her to a young couple who the previous year had bought her half-brother as a kitten - they were so taken with him that they decided they wanted another one. About 5 years ago they separated and came back to me to help them re-home both cats, as previously agreed with anyone who ever bought a kitten from me. The woman's sister then decided she would take Maggie and Elvis was re-homed to a guy in Manchester.

Unfortunately, it appears that the girl's parents are now separating and the mother has rang me to ask me to find another new home for Maggie.

She has lived as a single cat for the last 5 years and as Somalis don't do well in multi-cat households (but tend to really like dogs), I think it is better if she goes to a house with no other cats.

Also, I'm not being funny, but because she has already been re-homed once, if anyone is interested in offering her a home, I would like them to be as 100% certain as they possibly can be that they will keep her for the rest of her life, as I really don't want her to go through the stress of re-homing again at some time in the future.

Here she is as an 11 week old kitten at my house.

And these 2 photographs have been e-mailed to me by her owners.

She is stunning! Is she spayed? My sister is thinking of another cat. She does have a neutered Tom, but he thinks he's a dog cause he was reared by a Jack Russell. My sister is one of those mad cat people lol

Thanks Gina.

Because they have such an unusual coat (although they are now breeding this agouti coat pattern in other breeds, Abyssinians (and therefore Somalis which are bred from Abys) were the first cats with this type of coat pattern and it makes them different so you get a cat that looks wild without any of the wild genes.

As a breed they are very "people oriented", love being around people and dogs, rather than other cats - like to be involved in everything you do, are intelligent, can be trained, recognise their names and come when called - never really grow up and remain 'kittenish' all their llives - all in all a very 'interactive' cat.

Her mother's (Kisha) registered name is Feorag Cindy Incidentally (my first Rod Stewart litter) so, as this was her last litter, I went back to Rod again and the kittens were more Rod Stewart songs. She was registered as Feorag Maggie May and her owners liked the name Maggie so kept it.

Sorry, we cross-posted! She is speyed, but I don't think she'll live happily with another cat, especially a tom. She went to live with her half-brother who was born the year before and he was a typical male and quite rough with her. Apparently according to the mother of the original owner she has come out of her shell much more since Elvis left.

It is generally accepted that it is good to have a mixed litter of cats, because of the difference in the way males play together - it kind of hardens up the females a bit. Her mother was from an all female litter and never held her own in the hierarchy in this house. Maggie was also from an all female litter and I think just couldn't handle the roughness in play she got from Elvis.

This is why I don't advocate people buying brothers and sisters when they get 2 cats, because they often don't get on when they grow up. 2 males or 2 females get on much better in my own personal experience.
