Great stuff.

So do you have any babies at the moment Lou?

Our pairs are not quite mature yet so we have a long wait for Emins litters.

It's pretty shocking we can't just enjoy a normal cat and dog as a pet anymore, so many of them need rescuing. I imagine all the Gambian Pouch Rat are only in the UK due to being illegally traded so congratulations on worseing the wild population which are already struggling due to loss of habitat! Sorry, it does upset me that's all.

Have you ever been to Gambia? do you know they are vermin over there and also used for food? and did you know you do not need to quarantine CAPTIVE BRED rodents from the EU if you are bringing them over? Also they are being trained to sniff out landmines and TB in humans go do a google for APOPO or click Home | Herorat.org to find out more info.

And who says I dont enjoy my dog or cat, I love my dog and my cat thankyou, maybe you shouldnt jump to conclusions about someone you dont know

Have a nice day

These rats look amazing. How tame do they become compared to our domestic rats.

um I have never kept domestic rats but from what I know domestics are social and very intelligent am I right?

GPRs can be very friendly rats as well, but they must be handled from an early age and this must be continued to keep them friendly, They are clever little (well ok big) things which love to play on their own/with another GPR or with people. They do not have to be hand reared to be friendly I do not hand rear I leave them with the parents and they have wonderful natures, I only hand rear rejected or injured young.

But as with any exotic animal there is a down side, I have a rat here that hates ray with a passion, lunges screeches and bites him, that rat is not hand tame, she came to me as an uncontrollable female, I know there are some posts where ray described the bite on his knuckle, this same rat is fine with me she will sit on my shoulder while I clean out her cage and tolerates being poked and prodded but she will never be what i call a friendly GPR. She was never handled by her previous owners as they were scared of her and were advised to never handle her so she never got that bond that they can get with their feeder/weird play thing on two legs.

Theres never a guarantee that a GPR will be silly friendly but the majority I have seen from the few breeders I have found have all been silly friendly, but there is always the chance you could get the devil rat.
