Silvers would be for breeding. We have a Silver Hob ferret Stud available to us and we are having one of our polecat hobs vasectomised so we have our own boy who can bring girls out of season.
Had Ferrets a very long time and know all about them.

supposedly you can have problems when breeding from silver to silver.. i dont know coz i never have done, but if you go on the ferret forums they will say dont do it.. althought they hate breeding full stop. so read into it. just incase... my silver jill is pregnant at the mo, (fingers crossed) probly has about 2-3 weeks left, so they will be in season late next year...

Well, I have my Poles to out cross to and then back again with my mates silver stud. I am well aware about their views on breeding but if done properly and with care and thought. And just not letting kits go to just anyone, we'd just build another court lol Hubby is a proper handyman now having built all the poultry and pheasant houses, Poultry arks and Growers pens lol EEEEEEEEEE it's great having a Smallholding Finally! lol So least we have plenty of room for many more Pens and Courts. And I do the Free meat for dogs aswell (BARF DIET) so never short of food either lol

I find Ferrets fantastic pets. We have 7 at the moment. 4 Hobs at 10 weeks, 1 Jill at 12 months (Rescued covered in 30+ ticks) and 2 jills at 10 week old.

Our Ferret courts are Large stilted houses with a full built on run play area. Hubby designed them to be easy to clean and easy to get in and stand up inside the run area as the pipes run along the back utilising the height. 2 of the hobs will be trained for Rabbiting.

They are also on the patio as these are Hubbys Ferrets lol and he wants them where he can see them while chilling on the patio watching his babies lol

I have 22 ferrets at the mo, 2 more in a couple weeks then 2 more after that in october lol, then thats me done for the year.. next year i have a major breeding project, it shallbe fun.. this year my jill either aborted at the last minute or had them and ate them, i have no idea, poor little girl, but she has two lazy hobs that she has been mothering for the past couple months lol.

But as ive said with any luck susie shall drop soon, she had a really late season.. but i found a lovely sandy hob that she spent a few days with =P

lol Mad as me lol Cool!!!

Nice to know that all ferret owners ain't from the Nazi brigade

You any Pictures of your Angoras?

We've had ferrets for years and years. Just 1 or 2 at a time but since moving here and having the space. well lol

And when Triana needed help. It started us off again.

Triana was found in a terrible state, covered in ticks, almost bald, and very very thin.
Hubby fell in love with her even tho he was pulling his face when Cynthia from Rodent Rescue phoned me to see if we could take her in lol and he was besotted with her as soon as he saw her. She's totally become daddy's little girl lol. We got the other 6 on Thursday. 2 males are for a friend. but 2 hobs and 2 Jills are our babies.

Once hubby gets his concrete Garage up I get the huge pidgeon loft back and thats getting some converting done lol

Silver is the mustelid version of the merle gene(never breed 2 merles) and can produce serious faults, i've bred silver to silver before I knew that though and i was lucky, 2 silvers and 5 poleys all healthy. If your after breeding silvers or bew apparently an albino is the best option for crossing with. I did it that way this year and got 5 albino, 2 silver(1 light 1 dark) and 2 poleys one of which has a big white stomach and white blaze and feet. I bred for size though not colour and I got the desired result in half the kits. Next year I should hopefully have a small (greyhound)strain where the hobs are normal jill sized.
