I don't have a spare £100 or even £50 right now after the vet visit. Ah well. Out there somewhere is a quaker who needs me just like I found little Stumpy the disabled Jardine a few weeks back who now lives in marital bliss with 'Jolly' and who has gone from being a wild terrified aviary bird, to being very steady and who is communicating with me already by the head bobbing thing. I bob, Jolly bobs, Stumpy bobs. He watches Jolly interacting with me and I guess he's come to the conclusion that for a human, I'm not actually that scary ![]() |

You don't need to worry your head about my finances Tom dear. I have been able to manage them pretty well over the last 35 years. If I wasn't able to take care of any of my animals properly, I would not take on more and I would start trying to rehome them to people who could afford them. Yes £50 for a blue hand reared baby is reasonable but like everything else during this recession, parrots just aren't selling, she got stuck with it and has another clutch being reared. I was also offered a flock of patagonians at the same time. I would prefer not to have a hand reared baby. I actually like taking on the disabled ones.I'm not looking for another pet for myself, I am looking for a preening companion to a quaker who currently lives alone and I hate any birds living alone. |

Well you are in the miority then because I know several breeders and dealers and they are all telling me the same as are dog breeders. Please be a love and don't presume to tell me what I can and cannot afford to pay for otherwise I will end up getting a bit miffed and being very rude to you. I have no money spare, however my vet bill account at the bank has plenty in it. But that is for vet bills and doesn't get dipped into for anything else. It's my way of 'insuring' but the money stays in my bank and not an insurance company's.If I don't use it, I still have it. If I don't use it and am insured with a company, I still have to pay them the premiums. Don't you have savings accounts for certain things? |

i still think you should speak harry (is that right?). it's kinda fate, he has a disabled quaker & you want a quaker & doesn't mind if it's disabled.
the quaker does need a special home.

Fenwoman I know that you can afford to pay for vet bills and your animals NEVER go without. Its just some people cant help but judge if you put not prepared to pay a set amount. I agree that £100 is steep for a blind parrot but it could be that price includes a palatial cage which if you dont need could come off the cost. Surely this person would jump at the chance of a special home for the bird with you. I know I would
