astrex is a dominate trait so you will always get some in the litter if one of the parents are showing this trait and hairless is a recessive so both of your parents are possibly carriers of hairless... have you got a pic of your nakeds ? it is possible there is a few lines of hairless mice going around, double Rex which my line might of been??(i did used to get really bald baby's a year or so ago) and true hairless.. just like in the rats .. unfortunately i dont have the room to find out for sure with my breedings hence why i am selling the group off. ether way they are cuties and its always nice to have something different in your mice collections |

I know mine go sort of 'wavy' as they grow up. Mine are small as well the same as the nakeds. Must be somethng to do witht he naked gene's I think as the mother and father are both naked carriers. They carry satin and, what I've been calling, curly as well.
Here's some pics of my nakeds. These are the youngsters, 2nd and 3rd pics, from the male, who is the top pic, I have. They have a little fuzz. ![]() ![]() ![]() This is the origianl male, he's not doing the 'job' now for some reason, he's a good bit bigger than the young ones and bald as a babies bot. ![]() I'll get a pic of the tiny little girl, or I think it's a girl it's so tiny, in a tic. Here she is. Not good pics as I had to anage on my own and if she got loose i'd never find her. ![]() ![]() ![]() She's a month old now so she is very tiny. I think there is something wrong with the line I have and I'm going to stop breeding them. I'm hoping to get some more nakeds soon. i dont' think it's the 'naked' side of her breeding at fault I think it's the doe's. They have been giving birth to babies that just arent' thriving very well. The does, even the curly and normal coats, in the litters are tiny but the bucks are of normal size!!!!!

Double rex's and Hairless ain't the same.
Just been shaking my head at most of this thread. I have bred mice (shown them aswell) for 20+yrs. amazing how many NEW names a type that has been around decades can get and god it's annoying. Cute mice tho. Just one thing tho, the double rexing, can lead to shortened lives and poor health if not out crossed to keep health and size. You end up with weedy mice that live really short lives if you keep breeding them together. The Hairless, hated by most of the mouse fancy. I even had one get placed in AOV at Manchetser show even tho the judge himself hated them, just couldn't deny she was fantastic. But I had outcrossed my hairless into my Creams (supersized) and back again so got a far better body type and health. Hairless are very tumour prone aswell.

i am aware that naked/hairless mice and double rex are not the same
![]() its different genes setting off the hairless mice in both cases. hairless is a recessive, if you breed hairless with a normal coat you should get all normal carrying the recesive gene . if you breed a double rex which can look like a hairless but is dominant to a normal you should get all rex i belive? and calling them sheep mice is just a name i have called them .. i am not trying to sell them as a new type i just havent confirmed there genetics by breeding more so hence why sellling them with this discription ![]() |
