aww he's lovely. Another one of my fav breeds. Is he an escape artist? The people I know that have ridgebacks say that they learn really quickly how to open doors and latches etc.

Beautiful ridgeback. My parents used to breed these. Who bred yours?

Thanks, I think Jacks to daft to do anything like that just yet....he seems to be busy bouncing around and bumping into stuff and sliding across our laminate floor at the min but if he does do an evil kanevil on us I will let you know.

We don't know the breeder.

We adopted Jack from a friend who bought him from a breeder. Our friend only had him two weeks and decided he couldn't look after him due to his work shifts (whatever made him buy a dog I do not know!). Jack was 8 months old at the time and needed alot of attention and care as he was not a confident pup, he was very nervous, scared at the slightest noise, afraid of people and other animals and worst of all scared of his lead and leaving the house! When our friend told us this we had to take him as we couldn't bear the thought of him going to another home that couldnt cope.

It took us alot of time and patience and now a year and a half later, he has changed so much and really come out of his shell, hes daft as a brush, a big softie and you can see the confidence in him. Hes still wary of people he dosen't know but if you just give him five minutes to have a sniff at you, hes your friend for life

As for the breeder, from what our friend told us, we think they were first timers and only bred for the money as ridgeback pups can go for alot of money, they had three 8 month old pups left from a litter of 6, when our friend bought Jack and they sold him for £200 because they were sick of the pups and wanted rid! Going by the condition that Jack was they really didnt know what they were getting themselves into as none where house trained, scared, nervous etc!! If I ever met the breeders I just want to for treating such a wonderful natured dog like that.

ps sorry for writing a novel guys

Well in spite of his unfortunate history you have a gorgeous dog. Such a fantastic breed, I will have a few one day.

My Auntie breeds these in Derbyshire. She would be horrified by this story. At least it has a happy ending though
