Default Spney Mice

Some pics from last nights clean out session..

these are Egyptian Spiney Mice i think.. although could be arabain..

egyptian are Acomys cahirinus cahirinus arabian are A.c.dimidiatus

they are nocturnal desert dwellers, with a life span of up to 5yrs

they do not make suitable reptile food, due to the spines ! see pics!

they are very social animals and should not be kept alone

mine came to me from someone who did not want them anymore

this is one of the big males, note he almost has a ruff.. he is the boss in that tank!! when he came, his ears were chewed a lot, and he has no tail!

this is a slimmer female, with intact ears and tail!

a series of shots of the spines

and finally some baby pics.. baby spiney mice come out looking like a 2-3 week old mouse! the eyes open towards the end of day one into day two. they still need to stay with mum for 4-6 weeks tho.
