These are our first Gliders. I went to the new pet shop in Aberdeen to look at them prior to purchasing and fell in love with them. We have had them since 25 May.
I had read various mixed reports on gliders but the observations we have made so far are: 1. They allowed us to stroke them but not handle day 1. 2. Day 2 Male took food from open hand. Female took food passed to her. (Shop had said she might be pregnant so this might explain why she is slightly wary) 3. Currently male is feeding from hand and is now coming to cage door for walkies (runs onto hand up arms etc... then after a few minutes leaps onto cage and eventually goes inside after a few minutes.) Female is still a bit wary although not a timid animal. 4. They did escape from the cage that I bought with them one night but were quickly found together snuggled up behind a cushion on a chair. We have found that they are a very social animal (must be purchased as a pair, whether m/f, f/f or neutered m/m) They ideally need 2 hammocks (1 in cage and 1 to replace cage one whilst it is being washed) We have found that they are not dirty animals but they do scent mark (ours do it on top of hammock). Smell is not bad but advise cleaning at least once a week as you would normally do. Feeding time is always fun. (just be careful to wash hands before hand feeding as they lick your fingers and will occasionally nibble them although this is far from painful) The other thing to remember is that they are nocternal and will not normally be very active during day. At night they will come out to feed, play etc... but only in short bursts. We actually have moved them into our bedroom and they certainly don't keep us awake. After 2 weeks we certainly are no experts but are very happy we decided to invest in these cuties. |

glad you're pleased! they do get unsettled for a bit when they are moved but settle down when they realise how spoilt they are getting.
We have been out the door with orders for them and have had to start a waiting list! Hedgehogs have been amazingly popular too. give us a shout if you need any more and i'm sure we can do you a good deal. really didn't think they'd be able to escape through the bars in the cage. oops! I have a pair in the same cage at home - maybe i'm feeding them too many dried mealworms. LOL! Good luck, enjoy. |

"i.e. ups and downs of keeping them" Can be noisy, not sure if Salty has had them yipping at night yet "Yip yip yip yip yip yip yip................"<repeat and rinse for 10 mins>" Have to watch the diet, too much sugar can make them diabetic, to little calcium can cause HLP (Hind leg paralysis), to much protein and you'll do their little kidneys in. We have 10 of them at the moment (4 joeys for sale), plus more in pouch. Fantastic pets for the right person, as indeed is any pet.
