Default Squirrel kit

couple of pictures of one of my orphans I am currently hand rearing. she is a grey squirrel (yeah I know, vermin, tree rat etc, I don't care) that was picked up by a cat when she was about 3 1/2 weeks old, didn't even have her eyes open. she was taken to the vet who in turn put her on the wrong medication then sent her to me. she had puncture wounds to her back and legs, and was unable to move both back legs. she is now 5 weeks old and thriving. her legs work almost perfectly again, she is off the antibiotics and the bite wounds have compleatly healed up. she has just started to get the proper squirrel hyper active attitude and will sit and scream if she is left on her own in her box too long. as such she is currently asleep on the back of my neck instead! thankfully squirrels are usualy fairly easy to rehabilitate.

I am pretty pleased with how well she has recovered. when she first came in no one held out much hope for her to survive the night, as is the case with most cat attacks. even if she did we were expecting to have to put her down anyway because eveyone expected the damage to the legs to be permenent. the vets sticking her on baytril didn't help (great all round antibiotic, usualy very safe, but you can't give it to youngsters as it stops bone growth. vets know this, but conviniently forget when dealing with wildlife because it is easier than finding something else.) but she has proven everyone wrong and is determind to fight.

aw looking gorgeous and healthy. well done you. And tbh i don't care if people consider them vermin, every animal has the right to a chance in life
