Smile DWA snakes and gaining access to knowledge

hi im from south yorkshire, well sheffield to be precise. I have spoken to my local snake shop and reptile supplier as i am interested in one day owning some dwa's, ie rear fanged or even front fanged venomous snakes. I have heard that it is hard to get a dwa licence unless you have a mentor? is this true and if so is there anyone in my area that would be willing for me to learn from them, kinda buddy up with them and help out/learn. i have heard that this is about the best experience and training that you can get prior to owning a dwa. By the way before you all start thinking that im mad or have no idea etc etc, i have been keeping snakes for some years now and am used to them, just have not had any venomous ones!

nearly all of the commonly available rear fanged snakes are not DWA anyway

the short answer is yes, you will find your council much mroe willing to grant a licence if you have a good few hours of mentoring with a REGISTERED LICENCED keeper of venomous. It would be even better (makes the vet and council happier) if you choose a species you want then get experience with that species or another like it.

I dont mean to hijack your thread here but I have been thinking the same thing about a mentor in my area so if there is anyone in the NW that could help please let me know.

Thanks

Some things are Public Domain - i.e. you have a right to know. We're looking into buying a house and we can go to the council and find out how much our potenrial neighbours houses cost. Would it be worth while ringing up the council and asking if they have a list of DWA keepers in the area, or if the council could at least contact them on your behalf?
