I thought they were on dwa (komodos), if its not i find it highly amusing that i could put one in my backyard and noone could say anything (not that i intend to or am stupid enough to do this)

You are quite right! If you can get a komodo, legally, there is nothing to stop you keeping one. Only heloderms are DWA, despite the fact that large varanids can do serious damage!

You need a zoo/research licence to keep a Komodo, although they are not DWA as such its impossible to get a zoo license. Also i believe Gila Monsters are DWA.

Sorry, you are wrong! There is NOTHING to stop you keeping legally sourced Komodos.

A zoo operators licence is only needed if you are going to charge the public to view a collection of animals.
As for a research licence, this is needed if you intend to conduct scientific research on an animal, not just to keep it.

And when I say heloderms, that is the term used for members of the Heloderma genus ie Gila monsters and beaded lizards. Please please do not put information on which is totally false!!

the only thing that would stop you keeping a komodo is getting the planning permission to build an enclosure big enough to keep it in....

o and the fact they are not exactly readily avaliable...

there is a thread on here some were.
