These animals are a really popular captive species, and its no suprise as they make such great display animals and are easy to deal with (as far as venomous snakes go anayway).
Due to a relatively recent reclassification of the genus Tropidolaemus, there are now 4 recognised sub-species.
The first two represent the sub-species T.subannulatus. Both were caught in northern Borneo back in 2004.
First off, a juvenile
Next, a sub-adult female. At first i thought it was odd, as the colouration of this specimen is a charcteristic of adult T.subannulatus caught on Sulawesi island, not Borneo. However, after abit of research, i found out that Sub-adult females caught on Borneo often show the same colouration as Adults caught on Sulawesi, but change colouration as they mature.
Next, a sub-adult T.Wagleri caught in Sumatra early this year. They go much darker as they mature.
And finally, a juvenile T.Wagleri caught on Penang island, Malaysia, late last year. We caught five in the space of 20 minutes in this particular area.
