I keep venomous snakes because God tells me to do it, and he rewards me with coloured lights and music in my head.

I suppose its like any other hobby really, you do it because you have a strong interest / passion and enjoy it. Just like people enjoy rock climbing, or long distance running, or horse riding, or bee keeping , even stamp collecting or train spotting - unless you have that spark of interest then you may never understand why others enjoy it so much. Just because there is an element of danger does not mean people should not do it, all it means is that extra safety precautions are required.
I have been a hiker/walker for years yet so many people have said to me that they do not understand why I like to climb hills, why put yourself through that just to get to the top of a hill in the fog or rain? Its difficult to answer, but my answer is this - my hobbies ( hiking, photography, cycling, keeping reptiles) bring me a great deal of enjoyment, sometimes I can totally lose myself and become immersed in what I am doing and forget all the stresses of modern day life. There is also an element of challenge and drive to many hobbies I guess thats no different with keeping venomous snakes. There are some fascinating snakes amongst this group, so if you are capable of keeping them properly and safely then my question would be why not?

totally get where your coming from, i guess im just thinking in more about the element of danger but then i guess its not different to someone keeping non-venomous snakes, whatever floats your boat and all that
