Im doing my degree around vipera berus and im also a member of UK-ARG (Amphibians and Reptiles Group), they are the main organisation that deal with them in this country and as far as i know there is no breeding programme and there never will be because the species as a whole as the widest distribution as any reaching from england to as far east as the Russian Pacific Coast, Asia and the Artic Circle. it is starting to dwindle in the south of england this is due partly to mans intervention building and destroying habitats etc and due to climate change as they prefer colder regions so as the south is warming up they are becoming less numerous.
If you have any furthur questions please dont hesitate to ask. Rob
