Default Benefits of Mithridatism?

My vet tells me that a couple of guys have used this very successfully to become immune to bites, one so well that his blood is used in Miami as anitvenin when no suitable stock can be found in time. If it works - why is it not used more often, especially considering the cost of antivenin, and the relative ease of venom harvesting in your collection?

Cheers for the input.

Bill Haast is the guy in the states that does it, and its not ideal, not enough people do it to know what the long term effects are, its very dangerous to do.

and you will only be immune to the venoms you have used on yourself and a few from closely related species, ray hunter does this in the states and recently had a near death experience with an eastern diamondback bite so its not foolproof by any means
