not that lucky really.
People dont seem to understand the venom activity of snakes. And the untreated death rates either. depending on species alot of bite will go untreated and the patient will survive. For example the untreated leathality rate of N.kaouthia (monocled cobra) is between 1 and 10 % taking into account the 20-40 % of bites that are Dry that means that around 50% of envenomations are NOT fatal without any treatment. Just one example.

Good point Dan.
what a lot of people are not aware of is that it take most species a very long time to manufacture their venom, they are mainly reliant on this venom to eat (some venomous can and will kill via contriction, but some just are not built for it) and reliant on it for defense to a degree. Whereever possible a snake that has been forced to bite (NOTE FORCED, withmost species they would much rather get away that bite) they will be reluctant to use venom, or use much venom as it leaves them without their main asset. Snakes are a creature of beautie like all creatures should be treated with respect .....
To drag any snake around by its tail is unexcusable whether its for personel pleasure or entertainment value ...... HE must be completely brain dead and uncaring to drag a venomous snake round like that. Surely he realised he was asking for trouble it gave him enough warnings .. Then to top it of .. he gets treatment for his scratch he received and went straight back to torture the poor snake again .....some people never learn. rick |
