i know the basics in how mat stats work but i think mine may be on the blink!

before my stat knocks off the temps of the thermometer can go all the way up to 97?? i have calibrated the stat so that the average temps are fine for leos in my viv. HOWEVER......

Just wondering if this is a sign that my stat isn't working properly - i have turned the stat down to the 80- mark and tested it but the temps above the mat in the viv still reach ridiculous levels before it nocks off.

any advice would be welcome, thanks
