Question Ideal wattage for replacement ceramic heater?

I have just found that my 100 watt ceramic heater isn't working anymore. I have a infra red bulb to use in the meantime but would like to replace the CHE.

I am using a dimming thermostat (Microclimate model B1 magic eye) and I used to have to have it turned up nearly flat out to maintain 90 degrees fahrenheit on the warm side with the sensor moved away from underneath the ceramic otherwise I couldn't get the temp under the CHE to what I needed it to be.

My Royal Python is in a 36 x 18 x 18 inch vivarium, do you think that a 100 watt CHE is ideal or is 60 watt or 150 watt better?

A 100w ceramic bulb should be adequate for a 3ft viv, a 60w would be too small and a 150w would take up a lot of room in your viv. I use 100w in all my 3ft viv and have no problems getting the temperature.

bev336, whereabouts do you place your sensor for the thermostat you use?

i run 250w in all my 6ft vivs on pulse stats and they heat up a treat so i would say go for the 150w for a 3footer at the end of the day i look at it like this why go for a smaller one that has to work harder and then you worry about it hitting temps instead go for the bigger one and youll know its going to do it aslong as its on a stat your safe

just don't make the same mistake as me..

my 100watt isn't doing the job so i decided to go to a 250w (overkill but it was pretty cheap and the thermostat will sort it out). Got it today its the size of a CD and won't fit in my guard.
