Hi,
Ive been keeping reptiles on and off for a long while now and was allways under the impression that heat rock where a bad idea for any reptile. I heard horror stories of skin being burnt on to them and consiquently meny pet reptile deaths. Is this still the case? I only ask as while browsing equipment sections of some reputable online sellers they still ofer them for sale?! Im by no means having a go just wondered if they have been made safer or if they are still death traps.

i think they are frowned upon by the majority of herp owners because i dont think alots changed as yet

I wouldent buy one myself as they seem a bit unefficiant in theory and with all the danger speculated i deffo wouldent, Just wondered if they had come good?

it's one that confuses me as well.. From what i gather the idea of a heat rock isn't that bad for something that takes heat from below - ie a leo. The problem isn't when its working but when it doesn't work, if it gets faulty it can over heat and burn the leo.

So what confuses me is that if its a heat source it should be on a stat like anything else so if it faults the stat would deal with it.
