Default Possibly a dumb question.....

I'm upgrading the ceramic for the royal (doesn't heat up enough so having to use a heat mat too).

I'm going from a 100watt to a 250watt, overkill but that's what stats are for..
When the ceramic turned up i didn't realise it'd be the size of China and would need a bigger guard.

now to get to the actual point.... Is there a difference in the cable and 'bulb' holder? will i need a higher wattage one or is it just an ES holder suitable for ceramic bulbs? I bought the holder for a bulb a while back so no idea if they only go to a certain wattage.
Also, if they do need a higher wattage would i still need a different one if it wasn't being used to its full capacity? Probably need around a 150watt ceramic for the right heat so the stat will be constantly holding the 250 back.

i have some ceramics and yes the box did say some only suitable for 100w an others 150 ect...so im guessin the cable that came with mine is different too as one is thicker but if your only letting a 250w bulb reach the heat of a 150w i would imagine the 150w fittin would work fine...well in theory it should.....

Hi Meko,

Is the bulb holder a ceramic one or just standard plastic?, if its ceramic you should be ok with the 250 ceramic heater though some may be limited to 100w depending on materials etc.
For the cable did you purchase this as a kit and do you know if its heat resistant?. If purchased as a kit you should be ok as you would only be drawing 1 amp with the 250W heater (400 milli amp with 100W) and most cable would be ok, if you can try and measure diameter of cable wire (not the insulation), should be about .75mm or 1mm, if so it will be ok. I have some 3-core 1mm and .75mm cable.
Also check plug fuse, it my be 1A and you should use 3amp.

If its on all this time then as you say the thermostat will reduce output if its a dimming type, even when you switch on from cold it will draw 250w till it heats up but that should only be for a few mins.

Cheerz!

Cheers Lotus.. it's a plastic holder and came as a kit.
I'm thinking it might just be easier to not risk it and buy another..
