for babys i would just use paper towels it is cheap and easy to clean or you could use sand but be careful when feeding them on sand i am not sure what it does to them but nothing to harmful but just be of the safe side use paper towels they are cheap enough

thats the big question witch substrate ! ppl say paper towls - newspaper but it dont look to good , ppl say calcisand but aparantly they tend to eat it because it tastes nice and could end up with compaction, then theres reptile sand or childrens play sand witch could cause compaction also , repti carpit witch i dont know much about to be honist but its totaly up to you what you choose to use paper or carpit is prob the safest

what about large wood chips or slate any thin like that. i no the wood chips would be harder to maintain ( cleaning wise) or may be bark.???

herd of tileing which is a good idea and easy to clean but woodchippings can hold moisture which could put your Humidity level to high

natural tiles like slate or stone looks great. you can put natural looking plastic lino down on the floor of the viv and have a natural slate across the heat mat to make it look more attractive. all depends on personal taste.

Hi,

I cut two Ceramic floor tiles to size to fit inside the viv, then painted them with varnish and sprinkled sand onto them. Let that dry, coat with varnish again and repeat a few times. Looks a really natural 'sand', is easily cleaned, transfers heat and has no impaction problems....... shown in the pic below
